Cusco: Capital of the Inca Empire is a magic place surrounded by green mountains populated with eucalyptus brought from Australia. It is Peru's main destination with its mysterious ruins and friendly people. Definitely a must go.
It was a short trip of only 4 days cause I was short of money but obviously the best would have been to stay in the city for more than a week and visit Urubamba or "Sacred Valley of Incas". I noticed a dynamic and growing city with a lot of commerce and tourist services. There were tourists from all over the world most of them from South America. As for the food, the trout was delicious and Cusco has the best lemon in Peru.
The first stop was Pisaq where you can buy silverware and eat delicious empanadas made in artisanal ovens. Then we went to the Ollantaytambo fortress a vertical stone-made construction that is quite a challenge to climb up. Back at the city, we went to Sacsayhuamán, an imposing construction made of giant stones skillfully carved.
The cherry of the cake was the visit to the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu to go there we left the lodging at 4 a.m. to took the train to Aguas Calientes a picturesque and colorful town that is the gateway to the new wonder of the world. From there we had to take a bus that climbs the mountain until we reach the top where this marvelous city is suspended among the clouds and where the high commanders of the Inca civilization where supossed to had lived until they were decimated by the diseases brought by the Spaniards or by the war between both sides.
